The history of the Applied Entomology Laboratory dates back to 1947, shortly after the end of World War II, when Associate Professor Teruo Yamazaki was appointed to this position. He conducted world-leading research mainly on the mechanism of action of insecticides.
In 1964, the Department of Pest Science (laboratory) was newly established and Teruo Yamazaki was appointed as the first professor. The following professors were appointed: Yoshiaki Matsumoto in 1973, Toshiaki Ikejoji in 1988, Sadahiro Tazuke in 1993, Sachio Ishikawa in 2010, and Teruo Yamazaki in 2011. In 2021, Masami Shimoda became a professor.
During this period, the name of the laboratory was changed from “Laboratory of Pest Science” to “Laboratory of Applied Entomology” in 1999. As a laboratory in charge of entomology, we have achieved research results in a wide range of fields, and have produced a large number of personnel who are active in various fields.
