一方、攻撃的なテナガショウジョウバエでは、過去の勝者も敗者と同様に負けやすいことが分かり、さらには対戦個体のサイズを調節して闘争の激しさを変えた実験から、勝者が負けやすい原因は闘争の激しさである可能性が示唆されました。本研究は、動物の闘争における経験の役割が勝者効果/敗者効果のみでは説明できない多様なものであることを示すものです。
In many animals, the “winner/loser effect” is known to make individuals more likely to win/lose the next fight based on their past victories or defeats. However, in Drosophila prolongata, we found that past winners are just as likely to lose as losers. Moreover, by the experiments that manipulated the intensity of fights by adjusting the size of opposing individuals, we found that the intensity of fights may be the cause of why winners are more likely to lose. This study demonstrates that the role of experience in animal fights is diverse and cannot be solely explained by the winner/loser effect.
